Ingredients used in Home Made Pet Cuisine™
The following is a list of each ingredient used in Home Made Pet Cuisine™, along with an explanation of its’ benefits. Each of our carefully chosen ingredients serves a purpose and performs or supports specific functions in the body.
Greens (Collard, mustard, kale, turnip)
Alfalfa is especially high in vitamins niacin, riboflavin, folic acid, C, D, E, and K, beta carotene (vitamin A precursor), and the minerals iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium. Alfalfa also contains bioflavonoids, several digestive enzymes, many sterols (fats), amino acids, and trace elements. It is highly nutritive, and functions as an internal cleanser, diuretic, and appetite stimulant. Alfalfa also aids a variety of health problems such as arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, and digestive illness.
Alfalfa Sprouts are known as the “Three-Star Superfood”. Alfalfa Sprouts are the most significant dietary sources of isoflavones, coumestans, and lignans, respectively. These nutrients play an important role in prevention of cancer, hormonal problems, and heart disease. They contain twice as much protein as spinach. They are a good source of 7 enzymes, Vitamins A, C, & K with low fat, high fiber, high energy and no cholesterol. They are good as an anti~arthritic and anti~asthmatic, deodorant, diuretic and a nervative. It is the richest land grown source of trace minerals and elements such as Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, and Phosphorus combined with chlorophyll.
Almonds are the leading food source of alpha~tocopherolVitamin E, the more powerful and absorbable form of the antioxidant vitamin. Almonds contain no starch, which is important for diabetics. They have lower cholesterol levels yet contain a significant amount of Magnesium, fiber, Phosphorus, Zinc, Folic Acid, protein and potassium, all of which are beneficial to heart health. They are rich in antioxidants Vitamin C, Selenium, Beta~carotene to protect against cell damage.
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) used in its raw, unfiltered state helps to maintain proper acid/alkaline balance in the body. Contains a multitude of healthy minerals, aids calcium uptake in young animals, and helps detoxify the blood. Reportedly helps protect against: fleas, ticks, parasites, ringworm, fungus, mange, kidney and bladder stones, arthritis, sore joints and weak muscles.
Apples are an alkaline food rich in vitamins A, B, and C, calcium, fiber and pectin. Pectin binds glucose to help regulate insulin. Apples also bind minerals such as iron and copper, to prevent toxic buildup in the body, purify the blood to help health problems such as heart disease and colon ailments, and promote good digestion and growth, as well as a healthy lymphatic system.
Broccoli is a rich source of vitamins A and C, calcium, potassium and fiber, which benefit the heart, colon, and bones.
Cabbage contains high amounts of vitamins B5 and B6, is rich in vitamin C, and is one of the few vegetables that contains vitamin E. Classified as one of the “anticancer” vegetables, cabbage soothes the stomach and intestines during times of digestive upset.
Carrots contain lots of Vitamin A, C, potassium, and fiber. These nutrients are important for eyesight, keeping tissues healthy, and strengthening the immune and eliminative systems.
Celery is high in potassium, calcium, and folate. Shown to reduce blood pressure in animals. Contains anti-cancer compounds.
Cranberries increase the acidity of the urine and can act as a remedy for anal gland and urinary infections. They contain “proanthocyanidins” which has been shown to improve urinary tract health. Cranberries are an excellent source of the minerals Magnesium, Potassium, and Phosphorus, plus various vitamins like C, A, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, and K. They lower the glycemic value of foods, helping to control insulin levels. The tannins in cranberries prevent E. Coli, the main bacteria for urine infections from sticking to the walls of the bladder and kidney.
Eggs are called “Nature’s perfect food” because they provide a complete amino acid profile and other essential nutrients that are necessary to ensure good quality of life. Our eggs are “whole” which includes the shell, finely ground, as an additional source of natural calcium.
Finely Ground, Real Bones contain protein, essential fatty acids, fats, vitamins, and minerals, especially calcium. Bones are Nature’s powerhouse store of minerals; there is no more complete or balanced source for our pets. We grind the bones so you needn’t worry about your pet ingesting large pieces. You should still offer your pets safe, raw bones for recreational chewing several times a week.
Garlic is anti~bacterial, anti~fungal, anti~viral. It builds the immune system to fight against infections and disease and is generally regarded as a preventive measure for colds and flu. Garlic also lowers high blood pressure, as well as lowering cholesterol and fat in the bloodstream. Not present in our cat formulas.
Grapefruit Seed Extract (aka GSE)is well known as an antibiotic, antifungal, anti~protozoan, antiviral, antiseptic and disinfectant. It kills many different types of parasites such as streptococcus, staphylococcus, salmonella, E.coli, candida, herpes, influenza, fungi and traveler’s diarrhea. Grapefruit seed extract also assists the body in producing beneficial bacteria and serves as a powerful antioxidant to protect against free radicals in the body.
Green beans are a good source for Vitamin C, Iron, Magnesium, Folic acids, Potassium, fiber, and Zinc. They are an essential part of any diet and provide essential vitamins and minerals. They are fat free, sodium free and cholesterol free.
Greens (collard, mustard, turnip, kale) are extremely rich in omega 3 fatty acids, lutein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Niacin, Folic Acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Zinc. They are also full of antioxidants and anti-cancer properties. Greens do not lose their mineral values (such as Calcium) through the presence of nutrient stealer oxalic acid.
Ground Flax Seeds provide fiber, essential fatty acids, and many other essential nutrients. Essential fatty acids are most visible in the condition of skin and hair. They contribute to keeping the cardiovascular, nervous, immune and reproductive systems functioning properly. Flax seeds help to maintain a healthy metabolism, keep the bowel system regular and prevent constipation. They are good for health ailments such as cancer, heart problems, arthritis, and reproductive problems.
Honey is a combination of pollen and bee enzymes, made up of 35% protein, which contains half of all the necessary amino acids. It is a highly concentrated source of many essential nutrients, including minerals, B-complex vitamins, and vitamins C, D, and E. Honey is a natural antiseptic and promotes healing and energy in the body.
Kelp (aka Sea Kelp, aka Nori) has a trace mineral content which is among the highest of any known single source, and is especially valued for its anti cancer, anti rheumatic, anti inflammatory, and fibrous qualities. The iodine content of kelp is thought to be useful in treating mild cases of hypothyroidism. Kelp is an important general and nutritive tonic herb, which aids in the treatment of obesity, heart disease, respiratory disease, rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, thyroid deficiency, constipation, gastrointestinal ailments, and infectious disease. Kelp improves circulatory stimulation and promotes growth of good hair coat in dogs and cats.
Muscle Meats (Lamb, Chicken, Beef, Rabbit or Turkey) contain B-complex vitamins, phosphorus, iron, sulfur, copper, and potassium. Muscle meats provide a “complete” and digestible protein, including the essential amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which in turn contribute to muscle (heart, lung, other organs) tissue, and the immune, circulatory, and digestive systems.
Organ Meats (Lamb, Chicken, Beef, Rabbit or Turkey) are rich in the following: Vitamins A, E, D, K, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin, folacin, C; Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids; and minerals zinc, manganese, selenium, and iron.
Papaya contains high amounts of Vitamins A, C & E and minerals Potassium, Phosphorus and Iron. It is one of the most nutritious fruits. Papaya leaves and fruit have an enzyme called Papain that breaks down protein in meat to make it tender. Papain is also a powerful enzyme that digests proteins breaking them down to make the amino acids readily available. They are high in Fiber, low in Sodium, low in Cholesterol and saturated fat, and a good source of Folic Acid. Papaya seeds are edible and in fact have deworming action to reduce tapeworms.
Parsley is high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Calcium. It acts as an antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic and antifungal agent. It’s also great for freshening the breath!
Squash (both summer and winter varieties) are very high in vitamin A and contain good fiber for a healthy colon.
Sunflower Seeds are power-packed with healthy fats, protein, fiber, minerals, vitamin E and phytochemicals – all important to the nutritional quality of your pet’s diet. It is considered a functional food containing high levels of betaine, phenolic acids and choline which playa role in memory and cognitive function. They are a good source of arginine and lignans, which lower cholesterol to protect against heart disease and some cancers. Sunflower seeds also contain zinc and folic acid. Research illustrates that coyotes include Sunflower Seeds as a main part of their diet in the wild.
Sweet Potatoes (Yams) are a good source of vitamin A, niacin, and fiber. They aid the immune and eliminative systems, and are excellent for skin and eyesight. Sweet potatoes are also said to contain steroid-like properties, making them effective for animals suffering from arthritic pains.
Walnuts are low in saturated fat and cholesterol to reduce the risk of heart problems. They are a good source of protein, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. They also contain large amounts of minerals, trace minerals and vitamins.
