Pets who are lactose intolerant have a hard time digesting milk products because they lack the enzyme that breaks down the main carbohydrate in milk. Yogurt is a unique dairy food because the starter cultures actually produce that enzyme during fermentation. Thus, the milk sugar in yogurt is more easily digested, even for lactose-intolerant pets. Many pets who experience gas, bloating or discomfort from dairy foods can digest yogurt more easily, thanks to the starter cultures. This is especially true if yogurt contains live cultures. Probiotics are L. Acidophilus, L. casei, L. reuteri, Bifidobacterium bifidium.

What is Yogurt?
Yogurt is produced by culturing cream and/or milk with live and active cultures. The cultures in yogurt are living organisms. Milk could not become yogurt within the addition of cultures, L. bulgaricus & S. thermophilus. The cultures metabolize some of the milk sugar (lactose) in the milk into lactic acid. This action helps change the consistency of liquid milk into yogurt.

How many 3oz servings can I give my dog?
Any dog under 15 lbs can be given up to a 1/2 of a 3oz serving. All dogs weighing more than 15 lbs can have the full 3oz serving. However, you are the best judge of your pet’s needs. Note: A cat would consume 1/2 of a 3oz serving
